Louie Gong

Louie Gong is an artist, educator and public speaker who was raised by his grandparents in the Nooksack tribal community. He is well known for his highly sought after, hand-drawn custom shoes, and has received international recognition for a body of work that—like his mixed heritage (Nooksack, Chinese, French, and Scottish)—defies categorization.

About the Business

Eighth Generation is a Seattle-based art and lifestyle brand owned by the Snoqualmie Tribe. The first Native-owned company to ever produce wool blankets, Eighth Generation is a proud participant in the global economy and provides a strong, ethical alternative to “Native-inspired” art and products through its artist-centric approach and 100% Native-designed products. Our Inspired Natives® Project, anchored by the tagline “Inspired Natives, not Native-inspired,” builds business capacity among cultural artists while addressing the economic impact of cultural appropriation.
